Grinerdanes

Our ethics

We breed on a very limited basis to ensure top quality puppies. You will never find pups "always available" from us. When we choose to breed, it is done selectively and exclusively and for ourselves first. This is never a business and never will be. All of our pups are sold on contract only. Our contract is drawn to ensure a proper safe future for all of our brood and also ensures the health and well being of each puppy.  We have developed a breeding program that has worked extremely well. When you adopt a Dane from us, your are part of our family and have lifetime breeder support. We will help you with any issues that may come as much as possible. All of our Danes are tested for clear eyes, heart and hips and elbows before any matings occur.

Should any situation arise where you could not keep your Dane, we will gladly take it back. We never want any of our brood placed in shelters or rescues. We promised ourselves long ago that we would always make room for any of our "kids" to come back home to us.

We are very involved in all of our pups. We are there at birth, comforting mom and making sure the birthing process goes smoothly. Every birth is a family affair and we keep strict health records from the start. Each puppy is carefully monitored to ensure proper health and development. We change our schedules to assist mom and the puppies. Socialization is key in the development of any dog and we make it a top priority.

All of our pups see our vet at least twice before placement. Our vet does the most thorough exams that we have ever seen. Much time is taken on each pup and they get examined from head to toe. They take special precautions on checking their hearts and hip joints also. We get a copy of every exam and record it with each individual pup. All puppies come with dewclaws removed, current on vaccinations and worming and micro-chipped. We try our best to get the pups accustomed to every day noises and situations like car rides and hearing the vacuum cleaner. We do not let puppies outside unless it is in our own yard. There are so many diseases that are air born, that we take no chance to risk infection. After it is deemed safe for our pups we really concentrate on socializing them with new people, places, sounds and smells. We also strive to get the pups accustomed to housebreaking and some basic manners before they leave for their new home.

We stand behind all of our puppies. Companion pups are sold on a limited AKC registration (no conformation showing) with a mandatory spay/neuter incentive with a health guarantee. This is the best choice when you are looking for that perfect Dane to be your pet and family member. You can still participate in other AKC sanctioned events, but not conformation. Recent research suggests that Great Danes who are to be spayed/neutered do so between the ages of 12-18 months.  Most other breeds of dogs are spayed/neutered at a younger age because their growth is usually done by their first birthday. However in giant breeds, they do not physically mature until age two and need to keep those hormones a little longer to reach their full growth.

Show potential pups are sold on full AKC registration with health guarantee on co-ownership with us until completion of CH title. There is no time limit to acquire title. Inquire about special pricing for show homes.

All puppies stay with us until at least eight weeks of age. We really try to avoid shipping pups, so we will meet new owners half-way or more to avoid airline shipping as it is very stressful to a puppy.

ANY OF OUR BROOD ATTAINING AN AKC C.G.C. TITLE (CANINE GOOD CITIZEN)  WILL HAVE THE FEE FOR THAT TITLE REFUNDED BY US. This also applies to any title(s) attained in the obedience, conformation or working and agility areas.

We recommend to anyone searching for a puppy, to research your breed as much as possible. Know what to look for and what to avoid. Don't be afraid to ask your potential breeder questions. That breeder should also ask you questions ensuring their pup is going to a proper home. If a breeder cannot answer questions about the breed they are supposed to know, go elsewhere! Choose your breeder carefully and wisely and you will have a happy life with your Great Dane. They are one of a kind dog. Easy to love and impossible to replace.

We have pups placed across the United States. From the  warm sunny coast of California to the breezy coast Outer Banks of North Carolina. Most are adored pets and some are graceful show prospects. We strive to keep in contact with our extended family and offer lifetime breeder support. Any of our brood is welcomed back to us for whatever reason. We will not tolerate any pups produced by us living in rescues or shelters. We will always make space for one of our babies to come back home. It was a vow that we made long ago that we would not start something we could not finish. We try our best to make sure these pups get the best homes and the tender care they all deserve.

We pride ourselves on our education, dedication and research of the Great Dane breed. We have learned a lot over the years and are still learning from veterinarians, show handlers and other ethical breeders. Our devotion and love for the breed is a continuing process. We strive for abundant health/longevity,sweet temperaments, and conformation all in that order.

All of our Danes are registered within the American Kennel Club. We find the AKC to be the truest and most reputable purebred registry there is.
